The Wild Way will be at River Rock on two Thursdays in the month of May to introduce girls to indoor rock climbing. Your girl will both climb and boulder, as well as learn about climbing safety, climbing equipment, and the belaying process.
Outdoor Climbing at Raven’s Roost: Saturday, May 11 (click here to enroll)
Give your girl the opportunity to have an authentic outdoor rock climbing experience at Raven’s Roost. Raven’s Roost is a beginner’s climbing spot located off of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Charlottesville. Girls will learn climbing safety and equipment, discuss the belay and pitching process, and climb their way up a true rock face.

It’s o-FISH-ial…we’re going kayaking and fishing with Beyond Boundaries and VA-Department of Wildlife Resources! Join us for a day on the Maury River as we hone our kayaking skills, paddle through some light river rapids, and learn about the ins and outs of fishing.

Want to see the river in a totally different way? We’re stand-up paddleboarding (SUPing) and SNORKELING on the New River! Working with New River Land Trust, we’ll SUP from Big Falls to Ingles Landing, where we’ll end with a snorkel session led by biology experts who will teach us about local fish and other river wildlife.

We’re aiming for adventure with ARCHERY at The Peaks Retreat & Adventure Center in Bedford County! We’ll spend some time exploring their grounds before we try out archery and then finish off the day with s’mores around the campfire.

What if we told you that we’re going on a hike up Mill Mountain that is GUARANTEED to include some adorable animal encounters? We’ll hike the 2-mile Star Trail to the top, and after visiting the Star, we’ll visit Mill Mountain Zoo amphitheater to meet some of their resident animals.

The Wild Way offers a special WEEK-LONG camp that aligns with Roanoke City and Roanoke County/Salem public school spring break! This year, we are offering TWO simultaneous camps that will enroll girls from both school districts.
Over five days, girls will participate in fun and challenging outdoor activities, such as hiking, caving, and climbing. Our activities are focused on confidence-building, so that girls end the week feeling stronger and more resilient than ever.

Learns ways to feel safe and CONFIDENT in the outdoors and in your community.
The Wild Way believes that women should feel empowered and safe while enjoying the outdoors. We’re working with Krav Maga Roanoke to hold an educational workshop on how to remain aware, alert, and in-control in the outdoors (and everywhere else!)
Yoga, Mindfulness, & Art: Sunday, February 25th (click here to enroll)
The Wild Way is partnering with Uttara Yoga to provide a special yoga and mindfulness experience for girls. We will start with a fun and calming outdoor yoga and mindfulness practice, followed by an art session where we will make our own craft to take home.

Strength and resistance training is a fun and exciting way to develop physical and mental strength, and it’s especially important for women’s health.
The Wild Way is working with Community Unify Roanoke to hold an “Intro to Strength Training” workshop for girls. We’ll talk about why strength training is so important for female health and cover some basic movements that you can do in a gym and at home.

See the outdoors from an entirely new perspective - from in-between the ears of a horse! The Wild Way partners with Spring Valley Farms in Moneta to provide horseback trail riding. Horseback riding is a huge confidence-builder, as girls learn to bond with and direct these powerful and graceful animals. All riders are welcome to join, especially first-timers!

What could possibly make zip-lines and high-ropes courses even more thrilling? Doing it AT NIGHT! Join The Wild Way for a special twilight Treetop Quest event, right in time for Halloween!
Challenges include Tarzan swings, cargo nets, tightropes, and of course, zip-lines, lit up by string lights, decorations, and the stars. Ropes courses are a thrilling, confidence-building experience.

The Wild Way wants to help families learn the skills they need to get outside and enjoy the nature around them! This weekend, we are holding a MOTHER-DAUGHTER camping trip on the Jackson River in Alleghany County. We will be working with a Sierra Club backpacking guide who will teach us all of the skills you need to go camping with your family, including how to pitch a tent, build a fire, hang a bear bag, prep and cook backpacking meals, and much more.
Dragon’s Tooth Hike: Saturday, September 30th (click here to enroll)
Dragon’s Tooth is a classic Appalachian Trail hike and is right in Roanoke’s backyard! Join us for a morning of adventure as we hike and scramble our way up to one of the most beautiful views in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This is a 5-mile trail for experienced hikers who are ready to tackle a challenge and do some rock scrambling. The view is worth the work!
Stand-Up Paddleboarding at Fairy Stone State Park: Saturday, August 19th (click here to enroll)
We have one more opportunity to stand-up paddleboard this summer! The Wild Way is teaming-up with Pretty Humble/Humble Hustle to visit Fairystone State Park. Come check out their pretty sand beaches, play some games, and relax on our SUP boards! No paddling experience is necessary, but we do require that participants know how to swim.

The Wild Way is teaming up with Roanoke Mountain Adventures to offer a full-day of mountain biking, along with some river tubing! We will tackle the trails at Vic Thomas Park, followed by some time tubing on the Roanoke River. Later that afternoon, we’ll try out our biking skills at Carvin’s Cove. We require that participants in this event already know how to ride a bike and be able to swim.

Join us for a fun Friday filled with biking AND tubing! We will be biking down the Jackson River Trail in the morning, and then recovering by tubing down the Jackson River back to our starting spot. The ability to swim and ride a bike is required.
