It’s HAMMER TIME! We’ll create unique printed bandanas using leaves and flowers.
Join us for our FIRST Wild Way event led by Adventure Coordinator Laura Leonard! As the owner of Uttara Yoga Studio, Laura is brings a deeper connection to mindfulness and creative expression to our programming.
In this workshop, the girls will work with textile artist Alex Foster to create unique bandanas using botanical contact printing, also called eco-printing. We’ll begin by taking a nature walk around Fishburn Park to collect plants and flowers that we want to use to imprint our bandanas. We’ll then use what we find to make prints on cloth using hammers and the natural dye process.
Alex Foster lives in the Roanoke Valley and loves to work with natural dyes and printing with plants on fabric. They are inspired by seasons, colors, shapes, and most of all, PLANTS! Alex has been turning their fabric creations into quilts, soft sculptures, and installations. Check out @fosterfiber on Instagram or www.fosterfiber.com to see more.
This event is open to girls ages 9 to 14.
