It’s Climbing Time
This week, we climb. We visited River Rock Climbing tonight to try their indoor climbing routes before we head to Raven’s Roost this Sunday for outdoor climbing.
Meet Laura, our new Adventure Coordinator!
The Wild Way is thrilled to welcome Laura Leonard to our team! She is our new Adventure Coordinator, who will be with us for all of our Paddleboard Camps this summer.
GIVE Roanoke 2026
Thank you so much to everyone who donated to The Wild Way during yesterday's GIVE Roanoke campaign. We raised $2,351 to enroll more in-need girls in our hiking, camping, climbing, and paddling adventures.
Feeling Zen
Feeling zen at Uttara Yoga Studio this weekend. Owner and instructor Laura Leonard guided us through a fun, interactive yoga session that introduced the girls to lots of cool poses (some of which incorporated silly animal noises), followed by breath work and making mantra bracelets.
The Wild Way on WDBJ-7
Thank you WDBJ-7 for inviting us on the show again yesterday to talk about The Wild Way. Our participant Ahriya Shipman spoke about how everyone - including a pageant queen - can develop a love for the outdoors.
GIVE Roanoke is Next Wednesday
GIVE Roanoke is almost here! Next Wednesday, April 22nd, donate to The Wild Way to help us continue to make our outdoor, confidence-building experiences FREE and low-cost for girls in-need.
Bras for Girls Org ROCKS
Check out this crew and their awesome new sports bras! Thanks to Bras for Girls Org, our Spring Break Camp and West End Center for Youth participants all walked away with new sports bras to support them through all their athletic endeavors.
The Power of Journaling
Journaling is a powerful tool that is SCIENTIFICALLY-PROVEN to reduce stress, increase emotional regulation, and get this…even boost our immune systems. Check out how we incorporated journaling into our recent Spring Break Camps.
Volunteers Make the Magic Happen
The Wild Way has the BEST volunteers. Thank you to all of the folks who came out to support us during our two weeks of Spring Break Camp.
Ending on a High Note
The last day of Spring Break Camp at The Peaks Retreat & Adventure Center. The girls were extra sweet and supportive of each other, with everyone cheering each other on the rock wall and zip-line.
Gettin’ Down & (Really) Dirty
This may have been the muddiest caving crew we’ve ever had. And that’s really saying something.
Everyday Magic at Green Hill Park
There’s something pretty magical about pitching a tent. Not only is it empowering to learn how to do it all on your own, but crawling inside even makes adults feel like they’re in their own little personal fort.
Know Your Newts!
Roanoke City Spring Break Camp started today, and we got all the animal cuddles we could ask for at Apple Ridge Farm and Mill Mountain Zoo.
A Bittersweet Ending
The end of Spring Break Camp is always bittersweet. We spent the morning at Green Hill Park pitching tents, building sand castles, and practicing some mindfulness exercises.
Conquering Fears
Caving day! Caving taps into a lot of people’s fears: dark places, tight spaces, and the unknown. We had some girls who had never caved before, and there was some nervous excitement beforehand.
Hiking Stiles Falls
The weather turned the corner today right in time for our hike up to beautiful Stiles Falls.
Practicing Positive Self-Talk
Today, we had fun challenging ourselves at The Peaks Retreat & Adventure Center on their rock wall and awesome zip-line, and we also took some time to reflect on how we can be kinder to ourselves.
Spring Break is Here!
Animals we pet today included: dogs, salamanders, tadpoles, caddisflies, a blue-tongued skink, and…wait for it…a chinchilla.
Thank You, Roanoke Outside Foundation!
The Wild Way is honored to be one of 12 organizations to receive a Project Outside grant in 2026! Funding will go toward supporting our new Adventure Coordinator position.
