Forest Bathing on Mill Mountain: Saturday, October 3rd (click here to enroll)

  • Mill Mountain 2000 Jb Fishburn Parkway Southeast Roanoke, Virginia, 24014 United States (map)

Cleanse your anxious mind with a “forest bath”…

The girls will take a short hike along some of the trails that surround Mill Mountain, and then visit the Wildflower Garden to experience the Japanese practice of forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku.

Forest bathing is the practice of slowing down and intentionally connecting with nature through your senses, and research suggests it can help reduce stress, support overall well-being, and foster a greater sense of connection with yourself and the natural world. During this two-hour experience, participants will engage in a series of gentle sensory invitations that encourage mindfulness, presence, and curiosity while exploring the garden at a relaxed pace. There is no hiking or prior experience required—just a willingness to slow down, notice the beauty around you, and enjoy a restorative experience in nature!

This event is led by Laura and Dr. Sarah Henry, PhD, who is an Assistant Professor at the Virginia Tech School of Education and a certified guide with the Association for Nature & Forest Therapy.

This event is open to girls ages 9 to 14.
