Note: This event is exclusively for girls from Commonwealth Catholic Charities.
Do you like stand-up paddleboarding? And do you like….bugs?
It’s okay, you don’t have to like (or touch) bugs to learn about them and appreciate them. Join us for a day that combines an introduction to stand-up paddleboarding with ecological education. Working with American Canoe Association-certified Level 2 SUP Instructor Alex Siple, the girls will learn basic SUP strokes and maneuvers and river safety basics.
We will also bring out our nets and microscopes to learn about the macroinvertebrates that live in our local waterways. Did you know that the type of bugs that live in the water can tell us how clean it is? We’ll check out what’s living in in the Roanoke River and measure our water quality for the Virginia “Save Our Streams” program.
Neither paddling experience nor a love for bugs is required for this event. This event is open to girls ages 9 to 14.
TRANSPORTATION: Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC) will be providing transportation for this event. Alternatively, you can meet us at Green Hill Park.
PAYMENT: This event is FREE for participants.
