Hoot & Holler for Asher!
Last night, Wild Way participant Asher took the stage at Grandin Theatre for Hoot and Holler: Our Stories. Out Loud. In collaboration with Roanoke Prevention Alliance, this Hoot & Holler session focused on stories of resilience and overcoming adversity. We heard from immigrants, individuals in recovery, cancer survivors, and youth who've gone through difficulty and emerged on the other side stronger.
Asher spoke about their autism diagnosis, and how rather than being a source of shame, it was an empowering revelation that helped them understand themselves and take pride in what makes them unique. Their speech, in classic Asher style, was poetic, poignant, dry, and at times, hilarious. To say that we are proud is an understatement. Watching this young person blossom and share their talent for writing and self-expression has been a gift. Asher, keep being YOU!
